About Dave

Dave is originally from eastern Ontario. He first moved to Vancouver Island in 2004 for his pursuit of outdoor adventure and quickly grew a great appreciation for the Island’s majestic forests.

Working as a guide and outdoor educator at Strathcona Park Lodge for a number of years, he became connected to the lands and waters of Vancouver Island, as well as the struggle to protect BC’s globally rare ancient forests from being wiped out by logging (like what has happened in many other parts of the world). He has also worked in forest conservation in Kenya and Tanzania, where together with local partners he co-founded a non-profit organization called Education Is Power. His pursuit for better access to education in Africa spawned from the Canada World Youth exchange program, and led him to complete a master’s of Global Management at Royal Roads University. Dave believes that connecting with the community face-to-face is a key way to empower citizens to save BC’s endangered old-growth forests, and get behind the important campaigns of the Ancient Forest Alliance.

Working to protect BC’s endangered old-growth forests and ensure a sustainable, second-growth forest industry.
