From 2013-2018, Ancient Forest Alliance’s TJ Watt led the construction of many boardwalk and trail sections in Avatar Grove with the help of dozens of incredible volunteers. This trail work was to help protect the area’s ecological integrity and increase visitor safety, ultimately fostering greater public awareness of the need to safeguard old-growth forests in BC as people came from far and wide to see the spectacular forest. We’re very grateful for the financial support of our donors and the various grants which have made this project possible!
As of 2024, the trail has since been temporarily closed by Rec Sites and Trails BC as they work to create a more comprehensive trail plan for Avatar. The number of people seeking to visit the forest and its giant trees has outgrown the trail’s humble beginnings. We look forward to the better access that will be in place in the coming years.
