This beautiful second-growth forest close to Mt. Elphinstone Provincial Park on the Sunshine Coast of BC includes important stands of old-growth veteran Douglas-firs and redcedars, a gorgeous waterfall, and a beautiful box canyon. Cougars, deer, bears, red-legged frogs, Ensatina salamanders, and much more call the forest home. The area is heavily used by local hikers, equestrians, and mountain bikers and as an area for environmental education for local children and youth. In 2013, the former land owner, Island Timberlands, had plans to log the area’s recovering mature forests, much to the outrage of local citizens and property owners. Mosaic Forest Management now owns the area and is still standing; however, its future remains uncertain.
