Duration: Full-time, permanent staff position
Location: Victoria; AFA Office and Home Office
Compensation: $55,000 – 58,000 per annum

The Ancient Forest Alliance (AFA) is a registered non-profit society dedicated to protecting the remarkable and endangered old-growth forests in BC while ensuring a sustainable, second-growth forestry industry. The AFA has grown rapidly since our founding in 2010, reaching international audiences through our hard-hitting advocacy and awareness-raising campaigns. We specialize in public education and mobilization, building alliances with key allies, on-the-ground exploration and documentation of old-growth forests, research, and engaging governments to achieve policy change for BC’s ancient forests. In 2020, the provincial government promised to overhaul BC’s old-growth forest policies and increase their protection. By joining the AFA at this pivotal time, you can be a driver of the new policies that will determine the fate of the remaining endangered old-growth forests in BC.
Position Overview:
This position has a primary focus on supporting the AFA’s old-growth campaign through planning, implementing, and coordinating engagement, education, mobilization and fundraising projects. The Projects Coordinator & Campaign Assistant uses various approaches such as digital applications, events, webinars and direct contact with supporters, donors, volunteers, allies, vendors, and the general public. The role also emphasizes relationship building with donors and current and future supporters through email, phone, and digital platforms and utilizes administrative capabilities to coordinate the various applications of engagement including the donor database, website management, e-newsletter platform, and Google workspace.
Key Responsibilities:
• Coordinate campaign projects
• Non-traditional Allies outreach
• Event planning/organizing
• Assist with website management, creating and editing web content
• Fundraising and Donor stewardship program planning and implementation
• Grant coordination: researching opportunities and managing submissions
• Administrative support where applicable
• Email correspondence: campaign and public outreach related
• E-newsletter assistance
• Internal communications, general research, and supporting the organization in other necessary ways.
• Volunteer coordination
• Explore endangered old-growth forests
Essential Skills and Aptitudes
• Passionate about old-growth forest conservation.
• Has excellent organizational skills and exceptionally high attention to detail.
• Fantastic social skills and verbal communication skills.
• Is adaptable, friendly, hardworking, and able to identify and solve problems on the fly.
• The ability to work effectively under pressure with flexibility and adaptability to changing priorities.
• Has a willingness to learn, a commitment to personal growth and accountability, and enthusiasm for experimenting with new tactics and tools.
• Is highly self-motivated, able to work productively both independently and in a team environment.
• Technical skills with Adobe software (InDesign, Illustrator, Photoshop), social media best practices, and WordPress is an asset.
Experience
• Work or volunteer experience working on nature-oriented environmental campaigns.
• Demonstrated success in a similar coordinating or project management role.
• Excellent interpersonal and customer service skills; able to confidently engage with and assist supporters in person, at events, or over the phone.
• Adept at balancing multiple, potentially shifting priorities and scope of work while still meeting deadlines.
• A background in Ecology, Environmental Science, Environmental Studies, Geography, Conservation Biology, Biology, and Forest Sciences is an asset.
