Upstream from the famed Cathedral Grove in MacMillan Provincial Park near Port Alberni is the spectacular Cathedral Grove Canyon. Below the towering cliffs, giant old-growth Douglas-firs and redcedars grow alongside the clear waters of the Cameron River here in Hupačasath, Tseshaht, Snaw-naw-as, Snuneymuxw, and K’ómoks territory. Mosaic Forest Management is the private land owner, and in years past, old-growth trees were marked for potential logging before plans were put on hold due to a public outcry. A Provincial Land Acquisition Fund is needed to help purchase and protect endangered old-growth forests and areas of high recreational value on private lands, such as the spectacular Cathedral Grove Canyon.
