Thank you for speaking up for nature in BC!

View the document containing background information by clicking the button below. This is what the province provided for groups participating in the development of the Provincial Biodiversity and Ecosystem Health Framework.

Written submissions to help guide the development of this framework will be accepted until Monday, May 29th, 2023.

Please ensure that you incorporate the five points below in your feedback in your own words. The framework must include these critical elements to be truly effective in safeguarding BC’s incredible biodiversity.

  • A provincial Protected Areas Strategy linked to BC’s commitment to protecting 30% of its land area by 2030 by working with local First Nations.
  • Ecosystem-based protection targets that factor in site productivity.
  • A provincial “Chief Ecologist” and science team to ensure science-based protection targets are implemented with Traditional Ecological Knowledge holders.
  • Protected areas with the necessary standards and permanency to exclude industrial resource extraction.
  • Conservation financing for First Nations communities that create sustainable economic alternatives to old-growth logging and other destructive industrial resource industries.
