Action Alert! Speak up Against BC’s “Working Forest” Proposal!

We face a major battle, and we must win. The BC NDP government’s “Working Forest” proposal threatens to lock many of the most commercially and biologically valuable forests in BC into guaranteed logging zones, including major areas of endangered old-growth forests currently under logging deferrals. It revives an anti-forest-conservation designation that the BC NDP itself once helped defeat.

Under its proposed “No Net Loss” policy, protecting a forest within the “Working Forest Zone” would require opening another conservation area to logging or removing conservation options elsewhere to maintain the timber supply to private logging companies on public/Crown and unceded First Nations lands.

We’re urgently calling on the BC government to abandon the proposal, and we need you to speak up now. The government has just announced the first of four candidate areas where it plans to test the model ahead of province-wide implementation in spring 2027. We must push back before this destructive policy takes hold.
